There are literally hundreds of
easy skateboarding tricks you can learn. Some are very simple and you may master themstraight away. Others might will take some time and dedication. However, there are great tips out there which help you learn and have fun simultaneously.
Don't compare youself with expertsExperts have insane amounts of experience so you should expect them to make it look easy. If you get worried that you are not as good as an expert you have seen in videos, or even some guy down at the park who appears better then you, you will probably end up demoralising yourself. You might completely give up. That's not what we want to see.
By the same token, you should definitely listen to those who have more experience. They will often give you good advice on what you are doing wrong. Also don't be afraid to ask.
Don't bite off more then you can chewA typical mistake in learning skateboarding tricks is to try to do too much at once. Instead, you should focus on learning only one or two tricks at a time until you have them down. Then you can add more. The progress will be much more obvious, encouraging you to push forward. Be patient with your improvements as it will take a while.
Equipment and LocationMake sure you have the right equipment. You may not realize it but the type of trucks and wheels that you are using can make a huge difference. Ask shops and fellow skateboarders what they think of different gear. You can also do some research online.
The surface that you perform the tricks on can be another big factor in the beginning. Depending on the trick, you may just need a flat surface. Some can only really be done on asphalt while others require a smooth surface. You will work this out with experience.
Technique and Bad HabitsYou should try to learn the trick correctly from the beginning, without picking up bad habits. Once these habits are picked up, they can be hard to break if you have been stuck in the motion for a while. To prevent this, watch videos at home, reviewing your own tapes if possible and listen to the advice others give you (once again, ask!). Most of the time they actually do want to help you out.
Be SafeInjuries are the absolute worst thing for your progress. If you hurt yourself enough, not only will you be out of action, but next time you'll probably be on edge the whole time. You should follow safety guidelines when you perform tricks. There is a much greater risk of falling when you are first learning. You should wear a helmet, knee pads, and elbow pads. Statistically you won't listen to this advice, but you'll pay for it later. There is some good safety advice at
this page.
In SummaryIt is a challenge to learn new
skateboarding tricks for beginners but the results are worth it. Start out easy and work up to the more complicated ones once you've got the others down. Skateboarding should be fun, so don't pressure yourself to learn too fast. That said, don't be afraid to step out of the comfort zone and try something new. Pushing the boundaries is often one of the best ways to learn.
